Weekly Buzz June 2008 Everyone seems to be excited to be back at school! The first week of school has been great.
Our classroom is blessed with fifteen first grade scholars.
Mrs. Johnson will be our part-time aid . She will be in first and second grade at different times throughout the week.
Back to School Night for parents is Monday, August 18th starting at 7 p.m. in the church. I hope to see most of you Monday evening.
Snacks
We have a snack break after the afternoon recess. Each student is encouraged to bring a healthy snack of choice. (Drinks may be purchased.) Please help your child choose a daily healthy snack.
Homework folders will be sent home beginning on Monday. Students will be rewarded for on-time return of the Friday envelope and daily homework folder. (An easy five circles a week!) Please be sure to check the folder daily.
Our friend Q. Bear and his journal went home with the first student. Q. Bear will go home with one student every Friday and should be returned to school on the following Monday. I hope you have fun with the bear while he is visiting your home. Be sure to take some time with your child as he/she writes an entry into the journal. Pictures (drawn or photographed) are encouraged and welcomed.
Always return Q. Bear to school the next school day because he is an importance part of our curriculum (even if your child is not "finished" with the visit.)
If I have any communications from the school or from myself, it will be in the folder.
Also, any communication you wish to send to me should be placed in the folder.
I check the folders every day and hope you will get into the habit of checking it daily also.
Thank you for your help in keeping this daily communication link available between us.
When placing an order that is to be a gift, please write "gift" on the order form. For your convenience, you may write one check no matter how many different forms you use. Please make checks payable to Diane Eichholz. Orders will be accepted for one week after the forms are sent home. Be sure to write your name on the order form. Your order will be sent home with your child as the orders arrive here at school.
First grade will have P.E. one half hour on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon throughout the school year. You are encouraged to send a pair of tennis shoes to school that may remain here for your child’s use. Mrs. Schempp will keep the shoes in a basket in the family life center. Students will be able to change shoes in the classroom and then have the shoes stored until their next use. First grade students do NOT change clothes for P.E.
Art will be for one hour. Mrs. Schenk is the new art teacher.
Library is on Tuesday. Library books are always due back on Monday. Students who return their library book on Monday will be allowed to check out a book on Wednesday.
Spanish
We have a new Spanish teacher! First grade will have Spanish one half hour on Tuesday morning and Thursday right after lunch.
You will receive a complete class schedule at the open house.
I need someone to record students reading each quarter this year. It will require two trips to school each quarter. The first recordings need to be done in the next two weeks.
We could use a volunteer to organize book order forms about every other month.
In the past, we have enjoyed visits from mystery readers. The mystery reader brings a couple of favorite books and an enthusiasm for reading aloud. The time set aside for mystery readers is Fridays after 3:10 p.m. A sign-up sheet will be on the classroom door. If you cannot come to the classroom to be a mystery reader, you may want to consider recording one of our classroom books for our listening center.
EARLY ARRIVALS
Students who arrive before the 8:10 a.m. bell in the morning should go to before school care. The time just prior to the first bell is a good time for devotions and prayer both individually and as a staff. Twice a week, all staff meet together from 7:45 until 8:10 a.m.
If your child did not bring all of his/her class supplies, please get them to school at your earliest convenience. Students will be using glue, scissors, crayons, markers, etc. on a regular basis.
Parents,
I had some very tired students in the late afternoons. They will soon adjust to the longer “work” day. A little extra rest may help get some of them through the end of the day. I hope to see you Back to School Night.
In Christ,
Diane Eichholz
