Second Quarter, 2008

10/16          A Mighty Fortress is Our God, stanza 2

With might of ours can naught be done,

Soon were our loss effected;

But for us fights the valiant One,

Whom God Himself elected.

Ask ye, who is this?  Jesus Christ it is,

Of Sabaoth Lord, And there’s none other God;

He holds the field forever.

10/21          The Eighth Commandment with Meaning

You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not tell lies about our neighbor, betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but defend him, speak well of him, and explain everything in the kindest way.

10/23          The Ninth Commandment with Meaning

You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.

What does this mean?  We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our neighbor’s inheritance or house, or get it in a way which only appears right, but help and be of service to him in keeping it.

10/28          The Tenth Commandment with Meaning

You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.

What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not entice or force away our neighbor’s wife, workers, or animals, or turn them against him, but urge them to stay and do their duty.

10/30          The Close of the Commandments with Meaning

What does God say about these commandments?  He says, “I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep my commandments.”

11/04

What does this mean?  God threatens to punish all who break His commandments.  Therefore we should fear His wrath and not do anything against them.

11/06

But He promises grace and every blessing to all who keep these commandments.  Therefore, we should also love and trust in Him and gladly do what He commands.

11/11                                     YES

2.  But there’s the devil on the prowl

Seeking whom he may devour

Off’ring all kinds of fortune and fame.

But when the devil seeks his due

For the things he’s offered you,

Just say, “No! I don’t play Satan’s game!”

11/13                                     YES

3. Oh, each and ev’ry day is great

It’s a day to celebrate

What the Lord, in His mercy, has done.

Whatever any day shall bring

Live each day for Christ the King!

Live each day as a victory won!

11/18                         As Each Happy Christmas

1. As each happy Christmas

Dawns on earth again,

Comes the holy Christ child

To the hearts of men.

2. Enters with His blessing

Into ev’ry home,

Guides and guards our footsteps

As we go and come.

11/20                         As Each Happy Christmas

3. Makes us pure and precious

In His holy sight,

Granting us forgiveness

By His saving might.

4. All unknown, beside us

He will ever stand,

And will safely guide us

To the heav’nly land.

11/25                      Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

2. Christ, by highest heav’n adored,

Christ, the everlasting Lord,

Late in time behold Him come,

Offspring of a virgin’s womb.

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see!

Hail! Incarnate Deity!

Pleased as man with us to dwell,

Jesus, our Emmanuel!

Hark! The herald angels sing,

“Glory to the newborn King!”

12/02                      Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

3. Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace!

Hail the Sun of Righteousness!

Light and life to all He brings,

Ris’n with healing in His wings.

Mild He lays His glory by,

Born that we no more may die,

Born to raise each child of earth,

Born to give us second birth.

Hark! The herald angels sing,

“Glory to the newborn King!”

12/04                               Joy To The World

2. Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns!

Let men their songs employ

While fields and floods,

Rocks, hills, and plains

Repeat the sounding joy,

Repeat the sounding joy,

Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

12/09                                Joy To The World

3. No more let sin and sorrow grow

Nor thorns infest the ground;

He comes to make His blessings flow

Far as the curse is found,

Far as the curse is found,

Far as, far as the curse is found.
